The 70-metre round is the qualification format for Olympic-style recurve: 72 arrows at 70 m on the 122 cm face, shot as twelve ends of six, for a maximum of 720. It is the score that seeds the head-to-head brackets at target tournaments, which is why archers follow it more closely than any other outdoor number. Under World Archery classes it belongs to recurve archers in the Under 21 and senior divisions; the younger and older classes shoot the same twelve-end shape at shorter distances. The face is large enough that a competent archer rarely misses it, so the round is decided less by any single spectacular end than by how tightly the group holds from the first end to the twelfth.
